Last Day, I bowl tomorrow.
Donating to Big Brothers Big Sisters goes to funding background checks on "Big's", recruiting new volunteers, funding caseworkers for the matches (ongoing support), providing outings (museums etc).
Anyone want to toss me a buck or two?

Select "Alison Smith" from the drop down list.
thanks <3

I've never done a cattlecall asking for donations for anything before, but this is something I'd really like to make a difference in.
Sunday, March 29th I am participating in a bowling event to help raise money for Big Brothers Big Sisters.
They do great work in providing children with positive adult role models. Remember when you were a kid? Wasn't there one adult who made a difference in your life?
You can help me share a little magic with a child by providing a donation to support the work of Big Brothers Big Sisters.
I understand the economy is rough and every cent counts, but even $1.00 would help immensely.
The online pledge form is here:

We have POWER!
After two and a half days without.
We got power back at Mom's at like 7pm, then sometime overnight we got power back at our house.
Mom called mid afternoon yesterday "We scored a kerosene HEATER! Now we're looking for kerosene bottles" So we went all over creation looking for kerosene bottles. It quickly became apparent that there WERE NONE, -EVERYWHERE- was sold out. So I started looking for gas cans. I fiiiinalllyy found ONE one gallon gas can at a Mobil station (for $12! ouch!) So I called mom, and said we were still looking. I never did end up finding any more, so I went to fill my little one gallon gas can, and some jackass at the pump says "So what are YOU gonna do with THAT little thing?!" As he's filling up his 5 gallon can. I responded "Hey buddy, I'm desperate!" and thought (what, do you have GAS CAN envy or something?!)
So after the adventure of trying to find a kerosene can, we were all on our way back to Mom's. They had picked up pizza and were on the way home with it. We got here and. . .
THE POWER WAS BACK ON!
Which I was delighted to see of course but, it had BEEN on for hours! We didn't have to do that kerosene can nonsense LOL.
Oh well.
Power came on sometime overnight at our house too, so we'll be leaving here today. (finally).

Our area was hit by a major ice storm on Thursday night.
Out house lost power, I heard trees falling around us so I evacuated myself and JC to my Mom's house. Sometime that night her house also lost power, but she has a gas fireplace, so it's still saying mostly heated.
On Friday I went back to the house to survey the damage, there were a few trees down in the wooded area, and a few large branches across our driveway but the house was in good shape. I took the animals and brought them to work (the kennel), we'll stay with Mom because she has heat.
I'm currently at work mooching off of their intarwebs, Our power is expected to come back on Monday.
It sucks, but I'm safe, warm etc.

Today is the 10th annual Transgender Day of Remembrance
The Transgender Day of Remembrance was set aside to memorialize those who were killed due to anti-transgender hatred or prejudice. The event is held in November to honor Rita Hester, whose murder on November 28th, 1998 kicked off the “Remembering Our Dead” web project and a San Francisco candlelight vigil in 1999. Rita Hester’s murder — like most anti-transgender murder cases — has yet to be solved.

Turnabout is fairplay. Here's the meme:
1. Leave me a comment saying you want to do the meme.
2. I'll respond by asking you five personal questions so I can get to know you better.
3. You should update your LJ with the answers to the questions.
4. You should include this explanation and offer to ask someone else in the post.
5. When others comment asking to be asked, you will ask them five questions
JayBear's questions:
1. Why did you start playing MMOs in the first place?
It sounds stereotypical, but I started playing because BJ played. He spent so much time doing it I got fed up and said "so, can I play too?" So I could at least spend some time with him. EQ was the first game I really ever played, I went in entirely blind. Lately JC and I have been playing Magic: The Gathering, I actually enjoy that more then MMOs
2. What, if anything, do you miss about Texas?
The layout of the cities. Everything is fresh and new, there is a definite line between business areas and residential areas. The roads are newer, and for the most part make more sense. I really miss (some) of JC's family, and a small handful of really close friends I left behind.
3. If you had $50,000 that you were able to give to charity, where would it go?
Even though I'm not Christian, probably the local http://mccchurch.org/ Because they recently had to shut down, due to not enough funding.
4. Can you find good BBQ up North?
This depends on who you ask. JC would say no, never. I'd say yes, but I'm really not picky. I like Buffalo wings better anyway ;)
5. Where do you guys want to be in five years?
In a similar place we are now. More financially stable, with a bit of savings. I'd like to get Andra moved over here within the next 2 years. I am really enjoying my job, It can be quite stressful, but it's really interesting. The only downside to it is there isn't a whole lot of room for advancement, it's a very small company.
